The card for UFC 98 on May 23 just added a pivotal fight in the middleweight division as top ranked challenger Yushin Okami returns to the main card to face New Jersey native Dan Miller in a bout announced by the promotion on Tuesday.
The fight will be featured on the televised broadcast, which is headlined by the heavyweight title unification bout between Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar.
Okami returns to the Octagon after picking up his seventh win in the UFC back in December with a unanimous decision over Dean Lister.
The Japanese fighter is widely recognized as the top contender in the middleweight division, and actually has a disqualification win over champion Anderson Silva from a fight the two had in the Rumble on the Rock promotion in 2006.
Stepping in to challenge Okami will be former IFL middleweight champion Dan Miller, who currently holds a 3-0 record in the UFC. His last win coming by way of submission against Jake Rosholt in just over a minute, at the UFC Fight Night show in February.
Miller trains along side his brother Jim at the AMA Fight Club in northern New Jersey. He has become known for his exciting style and never say die attitude, which has been a welcome addition to the UFC’s 185-pound weight class.
With champion Anderson Silva slotted for a fight in April against Thales Leites, Okami could be in line for the next shot at the championship if he can get past Miller in May. For Miller the chance to vault to the top of the contender’s list in the UFC could come by way of defeating Okami.
UFC 98 takes place on May 23 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
