Yoislandy “Cuba” Izquierdo will look to put a disappointing UFC debut fight against Reza Madadi behind him when he takes on Rafaello Oliveira in a lightweight clash at UFC 148 in Las Vegas on July 7.
Cuba’s management team at Mundus Sports Management confirmed the fight on its Facebook page earlier in the week.
Oliveira, who is now in his second stint with the UFC, has yet to win a fight after resigning in May of 2011. His first stint saw the New Jersey based fighter go 1-2 before being cut. Oliveira then won four straight fights in regional MMA promotions to earn a new contract. Most would think that Oliveira needs a win over Izquierdo if he wants to keep fighting in the UFC.
While Izquierdo, who made his UFC debut in April of 2012, went down against Reza Madadi at UFC on Fuel TV 2 via a second round guillotine choke. Cuba entered the UFC after winning the first six fights of his career, which included holding the CFA lightweight title.
The fight will take place on the preliminary card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Headlining the show is the highly anticipated UFC middleweight title clash between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, while Renan Barão and Urijah Faber will battle for the interim bantamweight title in the co-main event.
