Considered one of the top Canadian welterweights, Ford (21-4) signed a multi-fight deal with WSOF Canada, the promotion’s president, Ray Sefo, told MMAWeekly.com.
Ford rose to prominence on the Canadian fight scene by knocking out fighters like Kyle Baker and Karo Parisyan, while submitting the likes of Pete Spratt and Tommy Speer. Of his 21 victories, Ford has finished 19 of his opponents.
He is currently riding a five-fight winning streak, including a rear-naked choke victory over Mike Hill at Aggression Fighting Championship 19 in July.
World Series of Fighting subsequently purchased AFC as part of its move into Canada.
“Ryan Ford is the epitome of what we are looking for. He’s an extremely exciting, high-caliber athlete who is always looking to finish fights,” said World Series of Fighting Canada COO Darren Owen.
“I’ve personally been lucky enough to have watched Ford’s entire career play out, and many times I’ve seen him fight in person in his hometown, where he brings the house down. You get goose bumps when he walks out and you hear everyone going crazy for him. I expect big things from him.”
WSOF kicks off its Canadian efforts with WSOF 7: Karakhanyan vs. Palmer on Saturday night in Vancouver. Ford is expected to make his promotional debut in early 2014, when the WSOF next returns to Canada.
