LAS VEGAS – Ultimate Fighting Championship and Pride veteran Travis Wiuff successfully defended his International Fighting Organization light heavyweight crown on Friday night at the Riviera Hotel & Casino.
He wasted no time in slamming Jesse Veium to the canvas, working position and then finishing him off with a vicious flurry of punches and crushing forearms.
The win improves Wiuff’s professional record to 49-11 and keeps his current winning streak alive at five straight victories.
He was originally slated to face fellow Pride veteran Cyrille Diabate. If he can continue his dominating performances and get a couple of bigger name wins, Wiuff would like be right back in the mix of things at the international level.
In a battle for the IFO bantamweight title, King of the Cage champion Del Hawkins survived an early scare by World Extreme Cagefighting veteran Brandon Foxworth to capture the belt.
Foxworth landed an tight guillotine choke early on in the fight, but Hawkins somehow managed to hold on and escape the maneuver. He then came on strong in the later moments and finished the fight when he opened up a barrage of strikes that left Foxworth tapping out.
In women’s action, multiple time boxing champion Elena Reid made her successful mixed martial arts debut by overwhelming a game, but overmatched Tammie Schneider with strikes in the second round.
Xtreme Couture fighter Dennis Davis continued his move into the featherweight division with a dominating performance over American Top Team fighter Reynaldo Duarte. He captured the bout by unanimous decision.
