An injury to Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos has opened the door for Tyron Woodley to step up and face Paul Daley on the upcoming Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson card.
Strikeforce officials confirmed the match-up on Saturday.
Woodley (8-0) has been gunning to face a top welterweight opponent since his last win over Tarec Saffeidine in January. Now he’ll get the chance.
The former wrestler from Missouri will face Daley in a featured bout on the night’s main card, with verbal agreements in place from both fighters for the contest.
Daley will look to get back to top form following his loss to Nick Diaz in his last fight, which was for the Strikeforce welterweight title.
Since that time, Diaz has moved on to the UFC and the Strikeforce title has been vacated. Strikeforce officials have not commented if the new bout between Daley and Woodley could potentially be for the title, or just a top contender’s spot in the division.
