Will Chael Sonnen Retire if He Defeats Anderson Silva at UFC 148? (Video)

Top UFC middleweight contender Chael Sonnen sat down recently for a brief question and answer session with his sponsors at Tapout.

Mostly avoiding the public schtick that he has cultivated over the past few years for the majority of the interview – talking about who has hit him harder than anyone else, and addressing life on the “mean streets” of West Linn, Ore. – Sonnen also fielded a rather interesting question. If he beats Anderson Silva and takes the UFC middleweight title at UFC 148 on July 7, would Chael Sonnen call it a career and retire?

What do you think, should Sonnen call it quits if he beats Silva?

Find out what Sonnen had to say in this Tapout video…

    Can’t wait for this fight.

  • dandonofrio

What a total and complete bass-ass…Sonnen is a master of fighting, and a master of words…We are blessed there is such a man…Thanks, and WAR SONNEN! Peace out to all, and to all a good fight!

  • Iamrozylo

Sonnen will be unconscious by round 2

    • bajafox

So you think Sonnen will beat Silva in the first then go take a nap by the second round?

      • jessemalloy

hahahaha awesome retort, bajafox. But that’s how I picture it going. Sonnen has Anderson’s number this time around

Ya know call me crazy but its interesting to hear that Sonnen trains with Henderson. I know they’re both Team Quest obviously, but sometimes the way Sonnen talks you would think he generally doesn’t respect Dan. “Silva never faced anyone good”, etc. I’ve also never seen them together. Guess that clears that up.

    • MuayThaiFood

Makes perfect sense they train together. They probably shoot testosterone in each other’s asses.

      • macgrubber

or maybe they just train together. Why would u bring something like that up? Im guessing ur in ur 30’s maybe 40’s and ur thinking of other guys asses. You gay bro?

  • erwinrommel

dandonofrio, is it a name? what does it means?

I think it is more likely that Silva retires after this fight, with the title still around his waist. Let’s be honest, Silva wanted to prove his black belt was legit and submit Sonnen. He even walked out in his Gi. Sonnen will be KO’d.

    • MrAdidas

LMAO I do not think Silva proved anything about his BJJ by submitting a guy who only losses by submissions. (I know Sonnen hasnt only loss by submission, but it’s close. I think he has 2 losses that were not by submission).

  • zacharydetal

Sonnen will lose again. I think Silva under estimated him last time. Dan Henderson and Sonnen both team quest, both on TRT, both can’t beat Anderson Silva.

  • Iamrozylo

Sonnen put silva on his back and layed on top of him for four rounds untill silva did something significant. I never understand the people that are fans of fighters you just neutralize fights, rather than wining. Sonnens fighting style is boring.

    • MrAdidas

WTF are you talking about?!? Sonnen was throwing punches NON STOP, mind you he hasnt got the “power” like a Brian Stann or Lombart, but how in the hell can you say Sonnen is a “boring” fighter?!? That guy comes to fight, he’s one of only a hand full of fighters who can actually back up all the **** talk he does b4 a fight. Unlike BJ Penn & every other GSP oponent who said they were going to KO the best P4P fighter on the planet … BAHAHAHA sure they will.

  • msaad

It’s perfect that Sonnen is sponsored by tap out since he seems to tap out all the time.

  • seancammack

Silva may have technically won the fight, but he took an absolute beating that night. I will never forget the chicken dance Silva did when Sonnen hit him with a beautiful overhand right. Chael also took Siva down with ease several times and pounded on him for four plus rounds. It was a thing of beauty. I guarantee the spider was not walking the next day. Silva’s hail Mary triangle was beautiful as well. It was one of the best comebacks of all time!

  • MuayThaiFood

Wouldn’t a more relevant question be ” will Chael Sonnen retire after he loses to Anderson Silva for the second time”?

  • pooby

Let’s see, an injured Silva finished a roided Sonnen last time.

Yeah, I’m sure Sonnen will destroy him this time….

Sonnen barely squeeked by with a decision over BISPING! Silva will KO Sonnen before the end of the second round. The only exception will be in Silva gets all wacky again and decides to dance around for five rounds.

    • MrAdidas

Why are you so stupid? Why are 95% of Silva fans so stupid?!? SOnnen was NOT suspended for “roids” as I’ve said before, along with everyone else. Sonnen will have the same treatment he had the 1st time he fought Silva. So WTF are you morons talking about?!? Just like Silva had “broken” ribs right … BAHAHAHAHAH no he didnt, wouldnt be aloud to fight with BROKEN ribs, he would have died the way Sonnen was tenderizing Silva’s ribs & face.

Sure Silva was injured, but his ribs were not broken & Sonnen will be on the exact same “stuff”/roids/treatment he used prior to their 1st fight. The ONLY actual difference will be Silva’s ribs & that’s it that’s all.

The only difference in the rematch will be that Silva has no “rib” injury. Face it Silva fans, Sonnen “out classed” Silva in their 1st fight, whether it was b/c Silva was injured or b/c Silva took Sonnen for granted, who cares. Fact … Silva won the 1st fight (b/c Sonnen got lazy), it doesnt matter how he won, as long as he did. Hopefully Silva doesnt use the … “I’m injured” excuse AGAIN & hopefully Sonnen fills out all the proper paperwork & doesnt test for any banned substances.

Should be a great fight. The longer it goes, the better it is for Sonnen, but if the fight ends early/1st or 2nd Round, I’m sure it will be Silva keeping the belt. Should be a great fight!

  • pooby

    *”if”….not “in”

  • Michel Mekdessi

But may i remind you that Chael was full of testosterone, and Silva fought with a injured rib. This time i hope Sonnen don’t drug himself and punish Silva honestly.

  • somecokehead

Sonnen will win this fight and then lose the next fight… then retire. Sonnen win by doctor stoppage(compound fracture of the jaw). Iron fist son… what?

    • TKD

      Your name says it all…

Sonnen quit? The only way this publicity whore would quit is if they start doing monthly Steroid testing,

    • MuayThaiFood

Win or lose he isn’t quitting. What’s he going to do, get back into real estate or politics? I don’t think so.
