A welterweight match-up between UFC veteran Thiago Alves and no. 13-ranked Jordan Mein has been added to the UFC 183 fight card on Jan. 31 in Las Vegas.

UFC officials announced the bout on Thursday.  The two were originally scheduled to face off at UFC Fight Night 49 on Aug. 23, but an injury forced Alves out of the fight.

Alves (20-9) is a nine-year UFC veteran that debuted in the organization in 2005. Injuries have plagued the 31-year-old’s fighting career. He sat out the entire year of 2013, but returned in April with a Fight of the Night winning performance against Seth Baczynski.

Mein (29-9) is riding a two-fight winning streak. He defeated Alves’ replacement, Mike Pyle, by technical knockout in August, earning a Performance of the Night bonus. The 25-year-old Canadian hopes to continue to rise through the ranks with a win over Alves.

UFC 183 takes place on Jan. 31 in Las Vegas. The pay-per-view event is headlined by the return of former middleweight champion Anderson Silva against Nick Diaz.

He hasn’t beaten a name since Koscheck 2008. Mein might be a name or will be after this win.
