WEC general manager Reed Harris, while on “Dave and Mahoney in the Morning” on X107.5 radio in Las Vegas, confirmed that the fight between current WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and former champion Urijah Faber will headline a May pay-per-view.
“I think the Aldo-Faber fight could truly be one of the most exciting fights ever in the sport of MMA,” he added.
The details are still a little slim; no firm date or location was revealed.
“There’s a couple of venues we’re looking at,” Harris stated. “Hopefully in the next week, 10 days we’re gonna have an announcement.”
He did say that he’d like the pay-per-view to sell for “$44.95,” though he was far from saying that price was set in stone.
His reasoning behind the price?
“(WEC is) the UFC, but (the fighters) are 10 pounds lighter.”
But Harris knows from watching his sister promotion, the building process and acceptance of pay-per-view isn’t going to happen overnight.
“Just like the UFC did, it’s gonna take time.”
