Extreme Cagefighting overtook The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in
Las Vegas on Wednesday night.

champion Urijah Faber once again proved his dominance, dispatching of Jeff
Curran in the second round of his latest title defense. Improving his record to
20-1, Faber made a strong case that he should be considered the top 145-pound
fighter in the world.

Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight titleholder Jens Pulver made his WEC
debut in the featherweight division. It was short-lived, but dominant. He took
care of rising star Cub Swanson in 35 seconds with an Anaconda choke.

Pulver is
now looking forward to a possible challenge for Faber’s belt… and he doesn’t
want to wait.

middleweight champion Paulo Filho got rocked early in his bout with Chael
Sonnen, but somehow managed to weather the storm that Sonnen brought to the
ring. Deep into the second round, Filho turned the tide and locked on an armbar
that had referee Josh Rosenthal calling a halt to the fight.

Sonnen was
understanding of Rosenthal’s decision to stop the fight, but sorely
disappointed in the outcome.

heavyweight titleholder Doug “Rhino” Marshall surprised many in attendance, not
so much by winning, but in the tools he utilized to finish the fight. In just
under one minute into the bout, he submitted Ariel Gandulla with an armbar, not
his preferred finish, but it left no doubts.
