The WEC on Friday made a bantamweight bout between Brad Pickett and Ivan Menjivar official for its farewell event WEC 53: Henderson vs. Pettis on Dec. 16 in Phoenix. MMAWeekly.com first reported the bout on Thursday.
Known as one of the most exciting fighters in the division, Brad Pickett (19-5) will come back to the cage in December off the first loss he’s tasted in more than three years. Coming up just short against Scott Jorgensen in August, Pickett is highly motivated to get back to his winning ways in December.
Training out of American Top Team in Florida, the British fighter has proven to be a top commodity for exciting fights in the WEC, and hopes to up his record when he faces Menjivar.
Making his WEC debut, albeit one event before the organization merges with the UFC, Ivan Menjivar (21-7) is a veteran that has fought in several promotions over the years including a one-fight stint with the UFC back in 2004.
Menjivar has faced the best of the best in the lighter weight classes, and will now move to 135 pounds to face Pickett in December with hopes of returning to the UFC thereafter.
The bout between Pickett and Menjivar will take place on the WEC 53 fight card, which will be the last ever show for the promotion before merging with the UFC in 2011. Ben Henderson defends his lightweight title against Anthony Pettis in the main event.
