While the Ultimate Fighting Championship has promoted an event in each of the past three years on Arnold Fitness Expo weekend in Columbus, Ohio, it is now time for sister promotion World Extreme Cagefighting hold court at the Nationwide Arena.
Saturday night’s WEC 47 features a bantamweight title showdown between champion Brian Bowles and challenger Dominick Cruz, with a strong supporting cast in tow.
Bowles and Cruz each stepped on the scale on Friday afternoon to make their bout official. Neither had any trouble making weight. Bowles tipped the scale at 134.5 pounds and Cruz at 134.
Miguel Torres will try to right the ship after losing the title to headliner Brian Bowles when he faces Joseph Benavidez, who is trying to get his crack at the belt. Torres weighed 134.5 pounds and Benavidez 135 for their bantamweight co-main event.
Jens Pulver and Javier Vazquez, who are facing each other in a match that could see the loser sent packing, both easily made weight for their featherweight bout.
