CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The fighters for Sunday night’s WEC 39 weighed in Saturday at the American Bank Center Convention Center and it’s official, Mike Brown will defend his WEC featherweight championship against Leonard Garcia. Both fighters easily made weight, as did the remainder of the roster despite a couple of fighters having to strip down and weigh-in behind a towel.
A big deal has been made about Garcia fighting in front of his home state of Texas, but neither fighter seems to think it will have much effect on the fight.
“The fight is the same anywhere once you get in that cage,” said the champion.
Brown also doesn’t put much stock in his win over Urijah Faber in November, saying, “That’s in the past. The next objective is Leonard Garcia, one of the baddest kids on the planet.”
“I don’t feel any pressure,” stated Garcia about fighting in front of the home crowd. “I just go in and fight him and make it a tough fight,” before adding, “we got Texas pride.”
Brown and Garcia will lock horns Sunday night at WEC 39 – which airs live on the Versus Network – heading a card that also features Bart Palaszewski against Ricardo Lamas, Jose Aldo versus Chris Mickle, and “Razor” Rob McCullough fighting Marcus Hicks.
