Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei SilvaThe UFC grudge match between Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva will take place on May 31 in São Paulo, Brazil, at the Ibirapuera Arena, UFC officials confirmed on Sunday.

UFC Brazil Managing Director Grace Tourinho said during the UFC Fight Night 38 post-fight press conference that the fight is signed and will be the main event for the upcoming card. A second UFC official confirmed the signing to MMAWeekly.com.

Silva and Sonnen have been coaching opposite each other on the third installment of TUF: Brazil, and the two have had heated interactions before and during the show.

UFC President Dana White told MMAWeekly.com earlier this year that Sonnen and Silva engaged in a physical altercation during taping of the show, an occurrence that was later publicized through a viral video.

As of last week, the fight had not been signed, according to comments made by White during a media event in Dallas. The UFC boss added that he intended on getting the fight signed and finalized within the days following.

Sonnen comes into the contest having lost three of his last four fights, most recently dropping a first-round TKO to Rashad Evans last November.

Silva hasn’t fought for over a year at this point, most recently earning a knockout of Brian Stann at UFC on Fuel TV 8 in March 2013.

The first fight with a TRT user fighting without his TRT should be interesting.

They dont test for PED’s in Brazil. So look at wandy and chael coming into this fight juiced as fck.

      • Piotr

They do test in Brazil now. Henderson got the last exemption given. From now on, no more TRT.

    • TheCerealKiller

I doubt he will be completely “clean” during the entire camp. Remember, he did piss hot in the past.

  • Joe Dog

If Sonnen looses, he’ll be done. I’m guessin’.

  • Ryan thompson

Sonnen never tested dirty for steroids. Why do fans still think he “pissed hot”?

    • Piotr

They probably assume he did since he uses TRT now and never did in WEC.

    • Mike Love

Huh? Sonnen was suspended by the
UFC for ‘pissing hot’ back in 2011.

You must be new to MMA.

  • Truthcore

Everyone should know exactly how this fight will go…

Sonnen will get the takedown on Wanderlei and either secure a submission or lay n’ pray all rds.

Sonnen’s wrestling is too good and Wanderlei’s takedown defense isn’t good enough to stop Sonnen’s takedowns.

They don’t know how to test properly in Brazil. Belfort’s last few fights, he has looked like a Brazilian version on Zangief. Remember that they are a 3rd world country and about 3 decades behind us. They are just now getting MySpace from what I hear.

    • Piotr

TRT was legal in Brazil until now, and LOL at just now getting Myspace. That’s not how the internet works.

I’m hoping Chael will smash that crreep. He will have to in BRAzil. Cause he will in no way get a decision in that place.

    • Piotr

Wand is a creep? Really? Who has been talking the most trash? I’ll give you 3 guesses, and none of them are Wanderlei.

Chael may be a great guy “in real life,” but his MMA persona is a total douchebag. Take it to WWE Chael.
