Wanderlei Silva at UFC 87Wanderlei Silva took many of us – media, fans, and fighters alike – for an April Fools’ Day ride on Monday, before admitting Tuesday morning that his statements and interviews about agreeing to fight Gegard Mousasi at UFC on Fuel TV 9 on Saturday were all a hoax.

Late in the day on Tuesday, Silva took his admission a step further, issuing a video apology.

Check out Wanderlei Silva’s video apology below…

  • Last year did people raged out when Fedor didn’t sign with the UFC? It’s sad when people don’t realize any news you hear/read on April 1st that sounds unlikely…could very well be likely a joke.

  • David

I don’t know why they chose Gustafson’s training partner. Wanderlei is the only choice that made sense. Wanderlei is one of the most famous fighters in the world( if not the most famous) and i’m sure the Sweden fans would of liked to watch Wanderlei. As for that match up( Wanderlei vs. Mousasi) that is a horrible match up for Mousasi(stylistically). That would of been an easy win for Wanderlei.

I was going to say “Visa”, but looks like you don’t need one. So yeah, why not?

Oh, and I think it’s a wonderful matchup for Mousasi (stylistically).

  • gnodeb

No need to apologize, it was April fools day and he got most of us 🙂 That’s the point of April fools day…

    • JGB666

Well, the problem was that he kept the joke going even on tuesday which was NOT april fools day. Fair enough if he wanted to joke on april 1st, but for him and his team to keep this lie going even the day after when media asked them was going too far.

wah wah wah some1 call the wambulance this bro wont stop crying.

    • Milosc

      Definitely an apologist

Whether a Silva fan, or a paid UFC blogger working damage control: that is the question

      • gnodeb

neither, just a random dude with opinion…

  • Apologize because the MMA media are gullible idiots, what`s next Obama apologizing for Americans being entitled retards?

    • Mike mckinney

That would be a good April fools joke

      • DingoBaby

Except then we’d have to deal with Fox News whining about it for the next 6 months.

  • Christina

Nothing to apologize for. Sometimes a line gets crossed but this wasn’t one of those times. I fell for it and as much as I would like to see the match up I understand he was just having a little fun. If you got mad about it then you seriously need to get a grip.

  • GARY

he made a joke. let it go.

  • Julian Moran

I thought it was funny, but I can understand Mousasi not finding it funny.

  • Adam K Vogt

When I read the title I was expecting something so much worse. Glad this turned out to be no big deal and that Wandi had some fun with it.

  • Milosc

This guy just went from the biggest warrior in mma… to coming off like a total douche/coward

    Whatever, Wanderlei..

    • MuayThaiFood

He apologized, and said, basically, (Mousasi) if you don’t want to accept it we can fight. Mousasi should thank him for promoting his fight. Gegard is so dull when he speaks in interviews I’m surprised he isn’t sponsored by Mattress World.

      • Milosc

Yeah bro: I just saved a whole battalion of troops in Iraq and am up for a Medal of Honor. I’ll spend 3 days telling you about the shrapnel I pulled out of my liver to throw at the enemy in an act of fearless defiance and pride. I am a WARRIOR. Clutch your chest with your right hand and worship me as an epic hero

(“Funny”, or just a “fake”? This amuses you?)

        Go watch some TV

        • MuayThaiFood

          Seriously, get a grip.
