Amateur kickboxer Dennis Munson Jr. died after his debut fight in March 2014 at the Eagles Club in Milwaukee. Independent experts say there was a cascade of errors by fight officials.

Munson was a fighter who trained at the Roufusport gym where UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis trains. The gym’s owner, Duke Roufus, also owns and operates the North American Fighting Championship, which promoted the event where Munson was competing in his first kickboxing bout.

The above video was produced by the Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel, which did an exhaustive report on the circumstances leading up to Munson’s tragic death.

His coach should be banned from the sport and put in jail along with the ref and doc!

      Doc surfing his phone. Disgusting!

Very sad indeed. Why not throw in the towel from the corner at some point. The kid had no chance of winning as the 3rd round started, so why even begin. This was an amateur event. As for the “text messaging doctor,” WOW! Someone needs to let it be known where he practices medicine so that you can avoid being cared for by this fool. Goes to show – just because you have a PHD doesn’t mean you’re smart….

I’m guessing he had an injury prior to the fight. The opponent never really hit ’em hard. Still ref was clueless.

The FU**ING IDIOTS Ref, Doctor, Trainers should be prosecuted for HOMICIDE!!!.

The amateur kid had no chance after round 1. Very apparent in round 2.

Properly trained medical personal are very keen in aspects of fight game.

Allowing this guy to round 3 WAS A JOKE.

Hopefully this guy’s family has SUES these clowns( doctor, ref, and trainer for contributing to death.

A bunch of DUMMIES running amateur night of fights.

We don’t usually agree on much but I couldn’t agree with you more on this. Absolutely disgusting actions and neglect on all their parts…… As you say, the should all be sued for murder….. At the very least man slaughter. His trainer is supposed to know him. He should have known something was wrong and instead pushed him up and slapped him in the face to try and bring him round. Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting

I hope this video becomes mandatory training for all ringside referees and doctors so that it never happens again.

  • Craig Pearson

That was terrible and obvious even after round 1. They should all be charged

Someone breaks into your house, you defend yourself and the criminal gets killed. You go to jail. A death happens in front of a large audience, video camera, failure after failure after failure and no one is to blame.

The worst case of ineptitude by ring officials I’ve ever seen- period. Were I in Munson’s corner I would have thrown in the towel by R2. It’s also likely if I had been his opponent I might have actually petitioned the ref to stop it. A fighters job is to not quit- their corner’s job is to understand this and advocate for his best interests knowing that he won’t. Same with the ref, the doctors and all officials. My respect to Munson and condolences to his family.

super law suit. this kind would of been stopped long time ago. Ref was looking for knock out basically. Wow! dang! before i decided to watch this i was giving the benefit of the doubt to everyone involved but profession negligence just plague the whole incident. man thats just sucks. Just so unprofessional. This sucks cause definitely will effect their career in the sport if they ever to be the ref or ringside doc or what ever. Man just sucks cause now distraction to the champ. Man this sucks. I can’t see any excuse not to stop the fight here. This just can’t escape guilty verdict to professional malpractice in cause of death. Can’t see way around it. Dang!

Jesus Christ!! These people failed the boy at every level!

For Anthony Pettis to defend these people he either hasn’t seen the video(highly unlikely) or his judgement is extremely skewed by money. At any rate this is terribly sad and scary.
