Dana White UFC 167 ScrumThe folks at Fox Sports Live managed to trap UFC boss Dana White in a giant television screen last night, asking him all things UFC in the process. Okay, they didn’t exactly trap him there, but the screen is huge.

In any case, White made an appearance on Fox Sports 1’s news show and talked about the upcoming UFC Fight Night 33 card. The president of the Octagon also touched on topics like Shogun Rua’s career status, the Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman rematch, as well as that awkward post-TUF 18 Finale interview with Ronda Rousey.

Check out the video of White below. Hat tip to Fox Sports Live for the clip.

I used to be a fan of Dana White but I’m becoming more and more incline to dislike him. If that was Brock acting like Rousey, he would have dropped the ban hammer on him. Also, he specifically said once that he would NEVER raise the price of PPV. Now he’s raising it by $5 for the Weidman/Silva fight.

    • Rence

I haven’t seen the Rousey interview yet, but i’m going to try to find it.

But I honestly dont believe that Dana personally has much influence on what the fight PPV’s cost. That to me seems like it would be up to the company providing the PPV outlets. I mean sure, the UFC has to have some input during the contract negotiations for the PPV, but i am not sure that Dana can arbitrarily decide “hey, lets throw an extra $5 on this one”

I could be wrong of course.

I literally just read about the raising of the PPV price on Twitter.

Rousey was being a snob, she wouldn’t even look at the announcers. She showed absolutely ZERO class during the interview. I understand her hatred for Tate is what “makes” her act like that (just like the government made people buy houses they couldn’t afford) but she needs to understand one thing, she’s supposed to act like a professional. Something she fails to do every time she’s in front of the camera with Tate in the same frame.

        • Maddawgmar

Where does it say she has to act like a professional to anyone she fights? Muhammad Ali trash talked, acted a fool, and disrespected all his opponents. He only gave them the respect of his fist. The only respect any fighter owes to anyone is to show up on weight and fight. That’s the only respect Rousey will show Miesha. She doesn’t like the broad, and Miesha doesn’t like her. You think Miesha acts all nice because she is trying to be the bigger person? Please, she is doing it because she knows it pisses Rousey off.

The companies providing the PPV outlets don’t determine the price. In extreme situations if it were to be like a $20 PPV they could maybe say this just isn’t worth it for us to run this event in this slot but that kind of thing doesn’t happen with the UFC as UFC PPVs are highly lucrative. They negotiate for their cut but how are they going to tell the UFC what to price their PPV events for, that is absurd. Dana White does have the power to make those kinds of decisions but I would not assume he just made that one without discussing it with at the very least Lorenzo and running it by some people. I doubt he would even bring major investors into the discussion though as it’s only going to benefit them.

In this situation it seems like they are taking advantage of their loyal fans/customers and sticking it to us all by milking an extra $5 for an event that we have been waiting since July for. This event is going to be huge and everyone wants to see it, who isn’t going to pay an extra $5 to see it, lets milk it. It’s Fking bullsh*t, if anything they should lower it $5-$10 to wish all of their fans happy holidays. I hope less people buy this event to make a statement, go to a sports bar and watch it or something instead.

        • Rence

Lol yeah, honestly, i very often go for the “or something” option. Which is why i’m only marginally aware of what a ppv costs these days.

And i worded my first response here poorly. I was mainly just trying to say that due to contracts etc that i didnt really think Dana could just wake up and say “f’-it, lets throw an extra $5 on the ppv, they’ll pay it”.

All of which just goes to support the theory that i shouldnt join discussions whist intoxicated :)

    • Jay Mcgarrity

Dana has said several times that he doesn’t tell people how to act or even prefer guys to act certain ways. You are handing us a hypothetical situation and then telling us not what you would do or think but what Dana White would do. I happen to disagree and believe if Dana had a problem with how Brock was acting on an interview he would talk it out with him before even considering dropping the “ban hammer” on him. (gaming reference?) There is a code of conduct and short of crossing the major lines such as racial boundaries, physical altercations, and so on, fighters are free to behave as they want without fear of being kicked from the organization. Certain personalities are more desirable and generate more revenue so I’m sure that can sometimes be the difference between getting cut and having one more fight to save yourself.

Are you honestly saying you would prefer it if all fighters acted more “professional” and put on a front like so many are trying to do these days? I feel like it’s a big flaw with many of the major sports out there and we lose sense of the individual athlete’s identity. I would by no means choose that kind of conduct for myself if I were in Rhoda’s shoes but I still prefer the real over the fake. Sometimes people are just looking for something to complain about or hate on and if the opportunity comes up, they jump on it. Rhoda not conducting herself in a “respectful” and traditionally proper manner is now some big headline in the MMA world.

As far as him raising the PPV by $5, that is complete and utter bullsh*t. He’s starting to poke some serious holes in the self-appointed honest and up front persona he’s built over the years. I was pretty irritated about Dana fining Mitrione over his Fallon Fox comments and even more for Nate Diaz using the word “fag” in a tweet which was not even made in a homophobic context but the more commonly used meaning that most people use it in. Only time will tell but it’s starting to look more and more like DW is moving closer and closer to becoming a sellout.

You’re kidding right? I’m not reading that book. If you can’t keep your point to a few sentences don’t bother replying, ain’t nobody got time fo dat

        • Jay Mcgarrity

You make such ridiculous statements sometimes, what do you expect. At least I’m giving you the respect of a decent reply and not just calling you a moron like some guys on here do. If you refuse to read something that takes about 30-45 seconds to read then maybe next time I will just call you a moron when you say something ridiculous.

          • bajafox

On your very first reply to me you called me a c*nt

I don’t care 2 ishts about your comments, especially if they’re longer than the articles on here.

On that note, go fk yourself.

          • Jay Mcgarrity

More false information from the Bajafox, the man with the opinion that not only doesn’t matter but is almost always wrong. If we met in person you wouldn’t tell me to fk myself but that’s why I’m naming you keyboard warrior of the day, Congrats! stay anonymous and stay safe!

          • Maddawgmar

You know what’s funny about Baja? He talks all this trash about Rousey being classless, trashy, disrespectful, etc. Yet he talks the exact same way to everyone who disagrees with him. He is the quintessential hypocrite.

          • Jay Mcgarrity

Lol, never thought to make that connection but so true. On a side note, I can’t wait to see Ronda take out Miesha again to shut some of these people up. 56% for Ronda and 46% for Miesha, it’s not supposed to be a popularity contest. Do 46% really believe Tate is going to win this fight? Ronda has always been all class and very professional in anything and everything that didn’t have to do with Tate. She’s done enough good in my book to get a pass for any Tate related nonsense as long as she keeps it legal.

          • Maddawgmar

            46% are retarded

      • Mike mckinney

Come on Jay, you know people have short attention spans. It may take a whole 30 seconds to read that post. Do you know how many shiny objects could catch ones attention in that amount of time?

      • JET

Do you not remember how a similar situation did happen with Brock and Dana publicly and privately ran him through the coals?

        • Jay Mcgarrity

You have to be a little more specific on the incident with Brock, the UFC 100 stuff? Either way, it never came close to the point where Brock was going to get the “ban hammer”. I don’t remember Dana running him through the coals either.

          • JET

Yes, UFC 100. Dana ripped him apart backstage and then publicly in the press conference. Then Brock told the press he just had a “whip the bull” session with Dana and apologized to everyone like he was scared for his job.

          • Jay Mcgarrity

It wasn’t even that bad, if anything Dana defended Brock and said he was in the heat of the moment with adrenaline pumping. He said that’s not who Brock really is and that Brock is a good guy. Brock Fuked up pretty big by slamming bud light, bud light is a huge sponsor of the UFC. Personally, I didn’t think that the other stuff was that bad but maybe the things he said to Mir crossed a line of sportsmanship and professional etiquette. Brock wasn’t even fined for any of the stuff that went down at UFC 100, a little slap on the wrist for what could very easily get you fired in some jobs. Even after Brock retired, they both sat down and had a talk about him possibly coming back but I believe Brock had already decided to hang up that part of his life.

          • JET

Fair enough. I don’t completely disagree, but I still think that Dana does allow Ronda some more leeway with having a bad attitude than some other fighters. I see your point as well as bajafox’s point.

  • Mike mckinney

Worse yet about ppv prices going up it will likely stay at that price point.
It would be silly for Dana to say they won’t ever increase ppv price. Everything eventually goes up in price. Well, except for top ramen….
Not sure how many of you know, but bars have to pay a crapload for fights. I have two friends that own large bars and they don’t show fights because it would be highly unlikely they’d ever recoup the cost.

  • Big Tuna

Rousey is garbage and Dana loves him some trailer court love

  • Bouncer

I personally think people give rousey so much shit because she’s a female in the sport. there are endless fighters with her same attitude, but they’re just hungry, determined, confident athletes. meanwhile ronda is just a classless bitch. yeah that seems legit.

  • Bouncer

nobody has anything to say about jon broken bones jones when he basically tells you to your face he’s better than you are. I suppose people are just too mindless to realize that
