Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has been cleared to return to sparring, as reported by Dr. Márcio Tannure, the medical director for the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission, on Friday cleared him to return to sparring for the first time since breaking his leg in a bout with current champion Chris Weidman at UFC 168 in December.

Silva got back in the ring over the weekend, working on his boxing, throwing hard punches and showing agile footwork at the Team Nogueira gym. He did not, however, throw any kicks.

After his training, Silva said that he can’t kick or jump yet, but reiterated that he fully intends to fight again next year. And he gave his scout’s honor, so you know he won’t break the promise.

“Quitting is taking an eternal defeat,” he said. “And at Team Nogueira, we never give up. Strength, honor, and determination are fundamental.”

It’s far too soon to lock anything into place, but Silva recently said that he would like to draw Nick Diaz out of retirement for his first fight back in the Octagon in 2015.

Glad to see the determination..come back however, I still feel sorry for the outcome on the sequence of events that led to this..don’t play in the cage again Silva..if you had not played and showboated to begin with and fought as you did Franklin or dancing in the would not be in this predicament..all the best! look forward how you perform when you return!

You don’t watch too much of Silva do you?

actually..i have followed Silva from his time in Pride..the showboating became worse when he defended his belt the last few times the worst being Maia and Wiedman..he was actually given a warning in that fight agnst Maia..unfortunately it caused him to lose his belt agnst Weidman..thats the truth..id10ts like you don’t want to tell this guy the just claim its his fighting style..IT’s NOT.

thats one of the strongest tools that anderson silva has been able to utilize in his fights is his “showboating” its takens many fighters out of their game and no question about it..IT WORKS most of the time hah high risk equals high reward but nothing is guaranteed in this sport as we have all seen. the “GOAT” has fallen. now lets see if he can rebound. i like the idea of him and diaz too its an interesting fight especially considering how big anderson silva is, risky for diaz if you ask me but thats a fight diaz wants on his record and you gotta respect that.

    He sure looks big.

Is it me or does Anderson look stronger??

His legs look a lot bigger. He should consider fighting at 205 for a while so he doesn’t have to cut all that to go to 185.
