by Damon Martin – MMAWeekly.com A pair of light heavyweights looking to gain traction in a very tough division are set to square off as American Top Team fighter Thiago Silva returns to face Brandon Vera at UFC 125 in January.
The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close the fight on Wednesday, stating bout agreements have been issued and signed for the contest.
It’s been an injury-riddled road for Thiago Silva (14-2) over the past couple of years. Suffering back injuries that almost forced him out of his fight against Rashad Evans, came back to bite him again and took him out of his scheduled UFC 117 fight against Tim Boetsch.
Back healthy and training, Silva looks to get back to the position he was in just a few fights ago as a possible contender for the UFC light heavyweight title.
Also looking to bounce back from a loss and injury will be Brandon Vera (11-5) as he returns after taking some extended time away following a loss to Jon Jones in March that resulted in a cracked cheek and orbital bone.
Vera underwent surgery to repair the injury, and hopes the best medicine is to get a win in January over Silva.
The news about the bout between Silva and Vera taking place on Jan 1 at UFC 125, was first reported by MMAJunkie.com on Wednesday as well. There’s been no word if the fight will make the night’s main card.
