Urijah FaberA bantamweight bout between division standout Urijah Faber and promotional newcomer Masanori Kanehara has been added to UFC Fight Night Japan, MMAWeekly.com confirmed with sources on Monday.

The 135-pound bout adds to the developing fight card, which takes place Sept. 20 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. FightSportAsia.com first reported news of the fight.

Faber (31-7) most recently got back on the winning track, dispatching Alex Caceres at UFC 175 earlier this month. The win came after losing his bid for the division title against then-champion Renan Barao in February.

Kanehara (23-11-5) is a rare case as a fighter making his UFC debut while coming off a loss. In his last outing, the Japanese fighter was disqualified for throwing his opponent out of the ring at DEEP: 66 Impact. Prior to the loss, Kanehara won six in a row.

UFC Fight Night Japan is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson, and will stream on UFC Fight Pass.

I’m not sure why Faber is taking yet another fight that could be devastating to his career.. I understood the first time of not fighting on PPV, because he would get more exposure but this…

Think again. Who is there in the top-10 for him to fight that he hasn’t already fought?

      • Timothy Malone

        Bryan Caraway

That would be so much fun for all the Caraway haters like myself 🙂
