World Championship Fighting on Tuesday announced that former Ultimate Fighter reality show star Sam Hoger will return to mixed martial arts competition at the promotion’s Sept. 19 event in Wilmington, Mass.

Following a win over highly touted Bobby Southworth at the inaugural Ultimate Fighter Finale, Hoger’s time in the UFC was rocky, amassing a 2-3 record in the Octagon. His last two bouts for the promotion were decision losses to top light heavyweight contenders Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida.

He then moved on to the International Fight League (IFL), where he dropped his lone bout for that promotion to UFC veteran Vernon “Tiger” White.

Hoger, having competed primarily in the light heavyweight division in the past, is making the move up to heavyweight at World Championship Fighting 4 after a 16-month layoff.

“I can’t wait to get back in the ring. It’s been a long time so I just want to get back out there and show everyone what I can do,” said Hoger. “I’m not looking past my opponent, but I plan on making big waves in the MMA world again and this will be my first step.”

Hoger is scheduled to face 6-foot-3-inch, 230-pound Braden Bice on Sept. 19.
