Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan

Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia

Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia

Round 1: The round opens with a windmill flurry of punches from both fighters.  Honestly, not that big of a surprise as both of these fighters are extremely agressive.  Garcia pops a solid 1-2 to Phan’s chin, followed by a snapping body kick.  It seems as if Garcia is making a somewhat cogniscient effort to throw straight punches and not be as wild as he has been previously in other fights.  A snapping jab from Garcia  lands to Phan’s eye, followed by a grazing right hook.  Garcia pops the jab again and is looking very composed.  Phan pressures Garcia against the cage and lands a nice left hook to the body.  Phan is starting to work the jab more as he is trying to find his rhythm.  A left/right backs Phan off a bit.  Phan throws a thudding straight right and follows it up with an uppercut and a left to a body, a gorgeous combo.  During a separation Garcia lands a looping right hook that connects and scores some points for Leonard.  The horn sounds, a very tough round to score. MMAWeekly.com scores the round 10-9 for Garcia.

Round 2: The round opens with both fighters exchanging and Phan just barely missing a head kick.  A jab by Phan disrupts Garcia’s rhythm and sends him stumbling a bit.  Garcia blasts in for a double leg takedown and takes Phan down to one knee, but he is able to post and stand up. A left hook, followed by a left hook to the body score for Phan, and he follows with a brutal flurry with multiple combos landing and Garcia is hurt bad.  Garcia falls to the canvas and is covering up as Phan explodes on him.  Phan takes the back of a prone Garcia and is looking to flatten him out.  Garcia is doing a nice job of tucking his chin and controlling Phan’s wrists as the round slowly ticks down, 30 seconds left for Phan to finish.  Garcia is trying to turn into Phan but is having no luck.  As the round ends Garcia escapes back to his guard, but still losses the round decisively. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-8 for Phan.

Round 3: Garcia comes out with a purpose as he lands a few peppering shots to Phan’s skull.  Phan is holding his ground however and is putting the pressure on Garcia.  Phan is cut on the side of his head now and is bleeding pretty bad.  A wicked left hook to the body by Phan.  The two fighters are just separating and colliding into each others strikes, it’s a slugfest folks.   Garcia shoots but Phan does a great job of sprawling to deny the takedown.  A solid three-punch combo by Phan sends Garcia stumbling back.  Garcia is gassed and he looks like he does in every other 3 round fight–tired and winging wild punches.  An uppercut by Phan snaps Garcia’s head back.  More body shots from Phan and Garcia is getting busted up.  Although it seems as if Garcia is landing alot of punches, he’s not, they are being blocked or just missing.  Another brutal body shot by Phan.  Phan is hoping on his feet and seems still very fresh.  The horn sounds and Garcia shakes his head in disappointment. MMAWeekly.com scores round three 10-9 and the fight 29-27 for Phan.

WTF????? Can the UFC find any worse judges?? That fight was not even close. If Dana doesnt police this bull up there is no way they can claim legitamacy at all!! Heads should roll.

The UFC doesn’t select the judges. Give a shout to the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
