Press Release
KANSAS CITY, Kans. — Jay Hieron’s return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship will begin here Saturday night when he faces hometown hero Steve Schneider in the main event of the Titan Fighting Championships.
Despite Hieron fighting only eight professional bouts, two those — his only defeats — have been in the UFC. The first was against top contender Georges St. Pierre and the second against Jonathan Goulet.
Vowing to get more cage experience and make a return to the UFC, Hieron hopes to show he’s on the way back by beating Schneider, a tough local hero with a 3-1 record.
The Titan Fighting Championships, which will be held in Memorial Hall, will be the first pro mixed martial arts event in Kansas. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first bout starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, or at Ticketmaster.com.
In another fight of interest, Kenny Stevens, a former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter II television show, will take on KC’s own Rob Kimmons in a feature bout.
Other local fighters taking part in the event include Bobby Volker, Chris Belshe, Joe Mabin and Grant Hartwig.
UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes will be a special guest referee, while former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia and former UFC standout Robbie Lawler will also be on hand to sign autographs.
