The Buckeye State of Ohio may be looking for a big bowl game in the college football world or event a National Title in basketball, but one thing they won’t get is a UFC in 2011.
UFC president Dana White confirmed on Wednesday that for the first time in 5 years the promotion will not put on event around the weekend of the Arnold Classic in Columbus, OH.
“No we’re not this year,” White confirmed about an Ohio UFC in March. “We’re definitely not this year.”
The weekend of the Arnold Classic, which falls in early March has held a Zuffa event for the last 4 years, including last year which saw the WEC put on their first and only event in the state of Ohio.
Bernie Profato, from the Ohio State Athletic Commission, told MMAWeekly.com earlier in the week that the state was hopeful for a UFC event around that weekend, but it looks like Ohio will have to wait till 2012.
The UFC is still in the planning stages for the events in 2011, but as of now only the shows scheduled through February have been confirmed, and more events will be added in the coming weeks.
