Two big men with a lot of promise will square off at UFC on Versus 6 on Oct. 1 in Washington, DC.
UFC president Dana White on Tuesday announced that “verbal agreements are in for a titanic battle between Stefan ‘Skyscraper’ Struve and Pat ‘HD’ Barry.” The two UFC heavyweights will be battling to re-establish themselves with each coming off of a loss.
After winning back-to-back bouts, Struve (21-5) lost to undefeated UFC upstart Travis Browne. The Dutch fighter is only 23 years old, however, and packs a ton of promise in his six-foot-11, 255-pound frame.
Barry (6-3) has gone just 3-3 in the Octagon, but he is a fan favorite and K-1 vet that packs some major power in both his kicks and punches. Alternating wins and losses in his UFC tenure, Barry is coming off of one of the most stunning finishes in UFC history. He dropped Cheick Kongo at UFC on Versus 4, but the Frenchman miraculously recovered and laid Barry out cold.
The two heavyweights are likely to be a feature fight on the undercard of UFC on Versus 6, which touts UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz defending his title against Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in the main event.
