UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is ready to step back in the Octagon and attempt the fourth consecutive defense of the title that he won while in the WEC. Challenging him at UFC on Versus 6 in Washington, DC, is “Mighty Mouse,” Demetrious Johnson.
Cruz, after stumbling against Urijah Faber in his first WEC championship attempt, has gone on to win nine consecutive bouts. His latest victory knocked the monkey off his back when he took a five-round unanimous decision over Faber, shifting positions with the former WEC featherweight champ.
Mighty Mouse is the winner of four straight, holding an overall record of 9-1. He’s blasted his way through some top-notch competition in gaining his shot at Cruz, defeating Damacio Page, Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, and Miguel Torres.
Neither Cruz nor Johnson had any trouble on the scale, both tipping in exactly at the 135-pound limit.
In a comical display among the heavyweight co-main eventers, Pat Barry, who stands a foot shorter than Stefan Struve, remained on the scale to make up the for the height differential when they squared off for their photo op.
UPDATED: Following the official weigh-ins, Mike Easton agreed to face Byron Bloodworth at 138lbs, and Bloodworth will be fined a part of his purse as a penalty.
