John Dodson vs. Jussier “Formiga” da Silva
Round 1: Both fighters exploring early on with tentative punch combinations. Formiga in orthodox stance; Dodson a southpaw. Dodson starting to land a few body shots, but both are still trying to find a comfortable range three minutes into the round. Formiga shoots, but Dodson easily fends it off. Formiga tries again, but is still unsuccessful in his takedown attempts. Dodson catches a Formiga kick, but can’t score the takedown. Not much offense in round one, but MMAWeekly.com scores it 10-9 for Dodson.
Round 2: Dodson is a little more aggressive trying to get inside on Formiga this round, but still not landing much damage early on. Dodson sneaks in a counter left hook, but it doesn’t really faze Formiga. Dodson easily defends another Formiga takedown attempt and follows up by dropping Formiga with a big punch. He’s cautious with Formiga on the mat, however, and allows him back to his feet. Formiga is now backpedaling a lot. Dodson chases him down, hits him with a left hand to the body and then up with another left to the chin, dropping Formiga, and follows with several more punches to a downed Formiga until the referee steps in to stop the fight.
