Cub Swanson started off the main card at UFC on FX 4 with a bang after he scored a huge second round TKO victory over Ross Pearson.
Early on, Swanson was utilizing his boxing and great head motion to stifle Pearson, but Pearson pressed forward and landed a power double leg takedown. Swanson then scrambled off the cage and rocked Pearson with a right hand. From there Swanson kept pressing the action and went for a Capoeira kick that hit the neck of Pearson, who then pressed forward and ended up on top only to be met with a powerful up-kick towards the end of the round.
When the bell sounded for round, Swanson looked like a man on a mission. Swanson pressured Pearson early mixing up his strikes, while Pearson pushed for another takedown and landed it. From there Swanson got back to his feet and attempted a flying knee to no avail. Towards the end of the round, Swanson poured it on and landed a front kick as Pearson pushed forward, followed by two right hands and a left hook that sent Pearson crashing to the canvas.
The official time of the TKO came at 4:14 of the round two.
With the win, Swanson moves his UFC record to 2-1 with finishes over two of the toughest featherweights in the division in George Roop and Ross Pearson. He believes his next fight should be a No. 1 contenders match.
“Well, I said if I win this last fight and this fight excitingly that the UFC acknowledges that and pushes me up faster,” Swanson said post-fight. “So I expect a really good fight, maybe a No. 1 contendership or whatever; I just want to be here and put on good performances for you guys.”
