Hatsu Hioki vs. Ricardo Lamas
Round 1: Hioki and Lamas come out kicking, but Lamas quickly ducks for a takedown that is stuffed by Hioki, who presses him against the cage. Hioki ties Lamas up and attacks with knees before tossing Lamas to the mat. Lamas reverses, but Hioki locks up his shoulder in an omo plata attempt. Lamas picks Hioki up on his back and slams him to the mat, Hioki maintaining the omo plata the entire way, but Lamas eventually slips out after slamming Hioki to the mat. Back on their feet, Hioki is looking to use his jab and front push kick, exploiting his reach advantage. Lamas rushes him and tries a body lock takedown, but Hioki uses a whizzer to defend. They’re back on their feet, clinched along the fence, neither mounting much damage, but Hioki eventually trips Lamas to the mat, landing in side control and dropping down punches and elbows with a minute left in the round. Lamas eventually gains half guard, but Hioki keeps grounding and pounding and then traps Lamas right arm, looking for a Kimura, but time runs out. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Hioki.
Round 2: Lamas comes out swinging and kicking high, but can’t get the shot he wants. Hioki shoots a single-leg, but Lamas defends well and gets the separation. Lamas gets his jab going and then leaps in with a solid left hook. Hioki counters with a straight left to the body. Hioki shoots and gets the takedown, but Lamas locks on a guillotine choke. It’s deep, but Hioki remains patient and works his way out of the choke. Hioki tries to pass Lamas’s half guard, but gets his head caught in another guillotine choke, Lamas has the full guard on this time as well, but Hioki again slips his head out with 30 seconds left in the round. Round 3: Lamas fakes a jumping knee and lands a left hand to the head. He’s being very aggressive to open this final round, throwing from all angles. Lamas lands a left hook and follows with a straight left to the body. Lamas is doing a good job keeping Hioki out of a rhythm. Good boxing from Lamas, landing a solid combination to the head and immediately going downstairs. Lamas feints with the punches and lands a couple solid leg kicks, really mixing things up well. Lamas comes rushing in, gets taken down, but again catches Hioki in a tight guillotine choke. Hioki remains in the choke for a long time, but remains calm, eventually escaping. Lamas has full guard locked on and is punching Hioki to the ribs, while Hioki is doing nothing offensively until the final horn sounds.
