Mike PyleKnown more for his submission prowess than his knockout power, Mike Pyle put the UFC welterweight division on notice at UFC on FX 3 on Friday night with a first-round knockout of Josh Neer.

“While he was trying to hurt me real bad, I could see openings,” Pyle said in his UFC post-fight interview. “Then I had enough and said, okay, I’m gonna try it now; and it worked.”

It worked better than almost anyone would have anticipated out of the Xtreme Couture fighter, but he’s evidently refined an element of his game that gives his opponent’s a new element to be on the lookout for.

  • Solid win for Pyle. I picked Neer to win and was surprised to see him get finished like that. Neer is one of the toughest and most durable guys out there and for Pyle to put him away was very impressive. Wonder who Mike will face next. Maybe Dong-hyun Kim, that would be a good test.

Good call, although I think Kim would whoop Pyle. Kim is pretty under-rated amongst welterweights.

Can we get an MMA Mind Power article about how Mike Pyle Powered up and Josh Neer powered down when he face planted? Can they well-informed comments such as:

“You see, when Josh got knocked unconscious, his confidence level went from a 9/10 to an 8/10 and Mike powered up from a 7/10 to a 10/10.”

    • Anthony

      lol, classic Rube

  • rsnowbass

Neer got caught. I’d still say 8-10 fights, Neer wins.

    • RubeKegal

Neer has the worst takedown defense percentage in UFC history, he has ZERO head movement and he looks to get people in bad spots with his jiu jitsu, but I rarely see him submit people. I would pick Pyle over Neer any day of the week.

^Agree! neer just got caught with a lucky punch…

Pyle didn’t impress me. He was about out himself. Any top ten fighter would finish him.

agreed, I was really bored with that fight and honestly thought it was pretty sloppy fighting.
