WEC fighter Joseph BenavidezJoseph Benavidez topped Yasuhiro Urushitani in their UFC on FX 2 main card bout, advancing to the final of the UFC flyweight tournament on Saturday in Sydney.

“Joejitsu” scored a technical knockout early in the second round, after initially landing a right hand that rocked Urushitani.

The second flyweight fight in UFC history started on a fast pace with both fighters measuring distance with kicks and combinations. Benavidez scored a takedown and stayed in top position for great deal of time thereafter. A choke by Benavidez nearly ended the contest before the first round’s time expired.

The second round was where it came to an end, as Benavidez landed a right hand to the head that sent his opponent falling the ground. Covered up, Urushitani could not longer provide any offense as Benavidez pounded him out, forcing the technical knockout.

The referee stopped the action at :11 of the second round.

“I felt like I can bring power to this division,” Benavidez said following the win. “I was rocking everyone at (135 pounds) and not quite putting them down, so I think that’s just a sign of things to come for me in the flyweight division.”

With the win, Benavidez improves his record to 16-2 and is on a four-fight win streak. Urushitani drops his record to 19-5-6 and loses his UFC debut.
