Takeya Mizugaki vs. Jeff Hougland

Round 1: Houghland gets the Thai clinch right away and lands several knees to the body, but Mizugaki separates and lands a solid low kick. Hougland tries desperately to get Mizugaki down, but Mizugaki body clinches and puts Hougland on his back up against the fence. Mizugaki defends a Hougland armbar attempt, dropping some heavy bombs down. Mizugaki continues working from Hougland’s guard, firing off some big shots, rocking Hougland, who is trying to find a submission. Mizugaki is relentless, deftly defending Hougland’s attempts and continuing to pummel him with heavy leather. He leaves an opening and Hougland snags a head and arm choke from off of his back, but Mizugaki stays patient and escapes, remaining in Hougland’s full guard, and again dropping down some really heavy blows. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Mizugaki.

Round 2: Mizugaki again doing well to defend Hougland’s takedown attempts, tying him up, landing knees, and then clinching and taking Hougland to his back again. Mizugaki again puts Hougland up to the fence. Hougland tries to roll into a kneebar, but Mizugaki doesn’t appear to be threatened, and much like round one, just continues to ground and pound Hougland. The place slows slightly and the referee stands them up. Mizugaki immediately lands a right hook and puts Hougland on his back again, going right back to the ground and pound attack to finish the round. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Mizugaki.

Round 3: Mizugaki opens with a combination that drops Hougland, but Hougland bounces up and takes Mizugaki down. Mizugaki turns the tables on the mat and once again puts Hougland on his back and starts working from Hougland’s full guard. Mizugaki isn’t as aggressive with the ground and pound this time, Hougland escaping to his feet. Mizugaki clinches and puts Hougland on his back again, however, maintaining complete control of this fight. Not much advancement of the fight and the referee stands them up again. Hougland goes back to the well and shoots, Mizugaki once again turning him to his back off of the shot. Mizugaki, much more conservative now, is landing hammerfists and elbows from in Hougland’s closed guard, and opens a cut on him, but they go to final horn.
