Chris Cariaso vs. Josh Ferguson

Round 1: Ferguson throws a few right hands and rushes in for a takedown, but Cariaso counters, and they’re back in the center of the Octagon throwing punches, Ferguson landing a solid right hand. Cariaso returns fire with a left hand and a solid combination, putting Ferguson on the mat. Cariaso follows him down into half guard, relentlessly firing punches, but then stands up and forces Ferguson back to his feet. Cariaso clinches and launches a knee to the midsection, but Ferguson hits the double-leg takedown, beginning work on the mat from Cariaso’s half guard. Ferguson is working for a guillotine, but can’t quite secure it, before Cariaso works up the fence to his feet and launches a hard left hand that hurts Ferguson. Ferguson goes crazy with a high kick and spinning kick. Cariaso pressures Ferguson on the fence, landing some heavy blows and then tosses Ferguson to the mat, working from half guard until the horn. Round 2: Ferguson quickly lands a right hand, but Cariaso eats it and keeps coming forward. Cariaso lands a left hand, but Ferguson fires back with a solid knee. Cariaso sticks a couple jabs, but Ferguson lands the double-leg. Cariaso, however, slips out and lands a couple shots. Back on their feet and Cariaso lands the left hand again. Ferguson goes for the takedown again, but Cariaso makes him pay with a punch combination. Cariaso is starting to amp up his stand-up game, landing more and more punches straight down the pike. Ferguson gets inside and presses Cariaso the cage, but Cariaso fends off the takedown and drives a knee to the body of Ferguson before they move off the fence. Cariaso now presses Ferguson into the cage and drives home some knees. Ferguson reverses position, but Cariaso uses the clinch and a trip to put Ferguson on the mat. Cariaso opens up with an onslaught of elbows and punches until the horn sounds. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Cariaso.

Round 3: Cariaso opens with a head kick that lands, although not flush. Ferguson counters with a good punch combination. Ferguson then goes for the takedown again, but Cariaso lands on top. They scramble and wind up back on the feet, clinching and trading knees. Cariaso clinches and sweeps again, putting Ferguson on his back and immediately beginning work from half guard, driving big right hands to the ribs. Cariaso starts mixing it up, body to head, and dropping in the occasional elbow before trying to set up a D’arce or guillotine choke. Ferguson defends and regains his feet.  They trade a couple shots and clinch, Ferguson uses a Kimura to get the fight to the mat. He takes Cariaso’s back, but Cariaso stands up, Ferguson still monkied on his back. Ferguson searching for the rear naked choke, Cariaso trying to fight it off for the last 30 seconds… and he does.
