Tim Means vs. Bernardo Magalhaes

Round 1: Tim Means, with an obvious reach advantage, he’s 6’2″ while Magalhaes is 5’9″, is trying to get his striking game going, trying to gauge his distance. Magalhaes shoots, but takes a knee to the chin for his efforts. Means uses a few knees from the Thai clinch, putting Magalhaes on the defensive. Magalhaes comes back with a solid overhand right, but Means lands a knee to the face, dropping Magalhaes. Means follows him down, looking for a choke, but Magalhaes escapes and the fight returns to the feet. Means opens up with the knees from the Thai clinch again, rocking Magalhaes. Means, a southpaw, is also getting his jab going, doing some work on Magalhaes’ right eye. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Means.

Round 2: Means looks to get his striking going right away, kicking low and throwing the jab. Means is now dominating position, taking the fight where he wants it, opening up on Magalhaes with varying punch combinations. Good overhand left hook from Magalhaes, but he tries to shoot and eats some knees from Means, who defends the takedown. Means is continuously walking Magalhaes down, peppering him with punches, looking for an opening for some bigger shots. He lands a good body shot and then presses Magalhaes to the mat defending the Brazilian’s shot, and peppers him with hammerfists. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Means.

Round 3: Means increasing the pressure to start off the final round, stepping up his jabs and combinations. Magalhaes shoots a single, locks onto the leg, but Means defends and won’t go down, going right back to striking at range, keeping Magalhaes on the backpedal. Magalhaes shoots the single again, eats a few hammerfists, but still can’t finish the takedown before Means slips away. Means lands a left hook to the body and Magalhaes goes down, but Means steps away and makes him stand. Magalhaes shoots again, but Means drops him with some elbows and then lands a few more heavy blows with Magalhaes on the mat, but again he backs away and makes Magalhaes stand.
