Round 1: Nijem immediately shoot, but gets caught in a standing guillotine choke. Nijem is fighting it, Proctor nails him in the head with a knee, but Nijem escapes. He does a good job gaining a Thai clinch on Proctor, landing a few knees of his own, before they separate and start trying to establish some range in each of their stand-up games. Nijem nails Proctor with a kick to the body, puts Proctor on the mat, and Nijem swarms him, taking the back, landing a flurry of punches. Proctor’s face is a bloody mess. Nijem tries to transition to mount, but Proctor escapes, they return to their feet, and Proctor again grasps a guillotine position. Nijem escapes and puts Proctor on the mat, taking his back, finding a home for his punches. Round 2: The round starts off with a few brief combos from both fighters, each trying to find a rhythm. Nijem finally gets Proctor to the mat, but can’t do much with it as Proctor reverses and locks on the guillotine choke. Proctor is standing with Nijem seated on the mat. Nijem gets to his knees, but Proctor is facing him, also on his knees, maintaining the guillotine choke. They stand up briefly, but Proctor maintains the choke and drags Nijem to the mat. Nijem escapes the choke, but can’t do much before the horn. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Proctor.
Round 3: Proctor lands a good body hook, but Nijem counters with the overhand right. They trade a few more shots before Nijem goes for the takedown. Procotor goes for an armbar, misses is, switches to a Kimura attempt, but Nijem escapes that and takes top position, hammering punches to Proctor’s ribs. Proctor escapes to his feet, but Nijem stays glued to him and they land back on the mat, Nijem still pummeling away with punches to both the body and head. Again, Proctor regains his feet. Nijem keeps the pressure on, but Proctor drags him down with the front headlock, transitions around to an armbar attempt, but Nijem has him stacked up against the fense. Nijem slips out of the attempt, is in Proctor’s half guard, but is raining down punches, primarily to the body. One minute left in the round and Nijem is keeping Proctor up against the fence, but Proctor slips out, and they regain their feet, teeing off on each other, Nijem getting the better part of the exchange with a jumping knee just before time runs out.
