Thompson moves in with a right hand and De Fries ties him up and presses him against the cage. Thomspon turns him. De Fries works for a single leg and gets it. Thompson scrambles back to his feet. He works knees inside the clinch. De Fries continues to work for a takedown. Thompson turns him and works for a takedown of his own. They battle along the fence. Referee John McCarthy separates them. A minute remains in the round. Thompson delivers an outside leg kick. De Fries lands a right hand and ties Thomspon up. De Fries steps back and throws a combination a the bell. MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for De Fries.

Round 2: Thompson moves in with a right hand. De Fries pumps his jab. Thompson moves in with a knee to the body. De Fries lands a straight right hand that drops Thompson. He dives on him and lands a series of right hands. Thompson gets back to his feet but De Fries has him pressed against the cage. De Fries drops down for a single leg. Thompson shakes it off. They separate and De Fries opens up with a combination before clinching again. They separate and exchange. Thompson lands a right hand. De Fries lands a knee and secures a takedown. He takes Thompson’s back. Two minutes remain in the round. De Fries softens him up with short punches. De Fries sinks in both hooks and applies a rear naked choke. Thompson is forced to tap out. De Fries wins by submission. They officially call the submission a face crank.
