Round 1: Neither fighter is quick to engage, but about 45 seconds in, Palhares dives and scores a takedown. Belcher locks up one of Palhares’ legs with his own legs, both men back to the mat. Belcher captures Palhares arm behind his head briefly, trying to secure a twister, but Palhares sits up out of it, attacking Belcher’s leg. He rolls into a kneebar, but Belcher sits up and takes the pressure off his knee. Their legs are still wrapped up, and Palhares starts searching for a heel hook, but Belcher gets up and out of the hold into Palhares’ guard, and starts grounding and pounding, dropping heavy elbows and punches, forcing Palhares to cover up. He keeps unloading until the referee is forced to step in and stop the fight.
