John Hathaway vs. Pascal Krauss
Round 1: Both fighters trying to get the jab going early as they get their timing down. Hathaway is looking more comfortable as the round advances, and starts landing more of his strikes. He misses with a takedown about two minutes in, but hits Krauss in the chin with a knee that floors the German fighter. Hathaway dives down into Krauss’ guard and begins grounding and pounding. Krauss hangs tight, trying to recover from the knockdown. Hathaway backs out and lets Krauss up, immediately pressing the action with his striking game, mixing up his punches and kicks, but Krauss lands a straight right that snaps Hathaway’s head back. Hathaway shoots and misses again, but drives that knee home, although not with as much authority as the one that floored Krauss. Krauss moves in and puts Hathaway on the mat, working his own ground and pound game from Hathaway’s guard to the bell. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Hathaway.
Round 2: Both fighters come out swinging, but Hathaway shifts gears and takes Krauss to the mat, landing in his full guard. Hathaway stays busy, trying to pass guard, but at the same time blistering Krauss with punches and elbows. Krauss, for his part, stays busy off his back, continually working his guard, trying to keep Hathaway off balance until he regains his feet. Krauss chases Hathaway across the cage, but doesn’t get much offense going, eating a couple kicks from Hathaway, as well as a hard right cross. Krauss goes for the takedown, but takes some knees to the body as he presses Hathaway to the cage. They separate, Hathaway pressing the pace to the end of the round. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Hathaway.
Round 3: Hathaway gets his striking game going right away. Krauss fires back, but Hathaway is still the more accurate striker at this point. Still, he shoots in, picks Krauss up, and plants him on the mat, ramping up his ground and pound attack once again. Hathaway lets Krauss up and quickly lands a flying knee, though Krauss keeps moving forward, trying to find a way to take this fight back from the Brit. They trade one-off punches for a time before Hathaway lands a spinning backfist. But he backs off and they continue trading. Hathaway lands a solid combination, wobbling Krauss. Krauss again tries to take Hathaway down, but is slowing down. Hathaway scores again with a right knee to the face, followed by a right hand, Krauss’ nose bleeding heavily. MMAWeekly.com scores round three 10-9 and the fight 30-27 for Hathaway.
