Danny Castillo vs. John Cholish
Round 1: After a bit of feeling out, Castillo shoots for the takedown, but doesn’t get it, instead landing a couple knees to the body. They separate and Castillo fires off a leg kick, but Cholish presses Castillo to the fence, landing a knee to the body himself. Castillo fires back as they fight for position along the fence. Cholish tries to get his jab going, but eats a right hand from Castillo. Cholish continues to try and set up the jab, but Castillo wings some big punches and fends off Cholish’s takedown attempts. They trade leg kicks with Castillo landing a right hand as the round comes to a close. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Castillo.
Round 2: Cholish ducks under a Castillo punch, wrestling him to the ground, landing in Castillo’s full guard. Cholish tries to lock up a front choke, but Castillo escapes back to his feet. Castillo lands the overhand right, then follows with a right hand to the body and then back up to the head. Cholish is having a difficult time finding the range for his punches, while Castillo keeps winging, and scoring, with the right hand. Castillo sprawls out on the double-leg takedown attempt. Castillo starts utilizing his jab in the final minute, takes a combination from Cholish, but then first back with an uppercut that snaps Cholish’s head back. Castillo ducks under a Cholish right hand, scoops him up and slams him down just as the horn signals the end of the round. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Castillo.
Round 3: Castillo continues to establish his jab. He shoots and gets caught in a front head lock, but slams Cholish to the mat. They return to their feet, Castillo keeping Cholish’s back to the cage. Cholish dives for Castillo’s leg, but can establish the hold. Castillo body locks Cholish on the mat, but Cholish works his way up to his feet. Castillo continues his clinch, driving knees to Cholish’s legs and body. They separate midway through the round, both fighters trying to find another opening. They spend a lot of time searching, before Cholish dives for the leg again with less than half a minute left. He doesn’t get it and the fight is over.
