The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the performance-base fighter bonuses from UFC on Fox: dos Santos vs. Miocic following Saturday’s event in Phoenix. Junior dos Santos, Stipe Miocic, Matt Mitrione and Ian Entwistle took home the $50,000 incentives.
Fight of the Night was awarded to the main event fighters, Junior dos Santos and Stipe Miocic, for their five-round war. The two heavy hitting heavyweights unloaded on each other for 25 minutes. Both fighters were hurt and exhausted by the end. The judges scored the fight for dos Santos by unanimous decision, but there weren’t any losers in that fight.
Heavyweight Matt Mitrione banked a Performance of the Night award for his first-round finish of former title contender Gabriel Gonzaga. During an exchange in the early going, Mitrione landed a left hook that sent Gonzaga crashing to the canvas. The 36-year-old then finished with a series of strikes on the ground. With the knockout, Mitirione is now tied with Andrei Arlovski for the second most knockout finishes in UFC history with eight.
Bantamweight Ian Entwistle took home the second Performance of the Night bonus for his quick finish of Anthony Birchak by heel hook in preliminary action. It was the third time the 28-year-old has won a fight by heel hook.
