Chico Camus vs. Yaotzin Meza
Round 1: Both fighters careful early. Meza lands an outside leg kick. Camus rushes in with punches. Meza changes levels and works to get the fight to the ground. He presses Camus against the cage and secures a takedown. He works in half guard. Camus reverses him. Meza controls Camus’ posture. Meza looks to sweep but Camus remains in top position. He works in full guard. Camus lands short shots. Meza works a high guard looking for a submission. The referee stands them up after a minute or so. Camus quickly goes for a takedown. Round 2: Camus lands a right hand. He has Meza on his back. Meza reverses him. Meza peppers Camus with short shots to the body and head. The referee stands them up after a minute. Camus lands a right hand. Camus works for a single leg takedown and gets it. Meza briefly looks for a guillotine choke, but it isn’t there. Camus moves to half guard. He advances to the mount position. Meza rolls, giving up his back. Camus takes his back and looks for a choke. He moves back to the mount. Meza tries to buck. He rolls and Camus takes his back. Meza tries to shake him off and Camus disengages. Meza presses Camus against the cage. They head fight. The round ends. MMAWeekly scores it 10-9 for Camus.
Round 3: Camus moves in with a left hand. Meza throws a front kick to the body. Meza throws a kick and Camus catches it and takes him to the ground. Meza moves to the cage, intending to use it to stand. Camus has other ideas and advances to the mount position. Camus scoots Meza away from the cage. Meza rolls, giving up his back. Meza gets to his feet and hopes to shake Camus off. Camus pulls him back to the ground and works for a rear naked choke. Meza gets free from the submission attempt but finds himself mounted again. Meza tries to buck. He rolls, but Camus moves with him. Meza gains top position with just over a minute remaining. He lands short left hands. Camus gets to his feet and takes Meza down. He moves to side control and then to the mount. Meza rolls and Camus has the back mount. The round ends. MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Camus.
The judges scored the fight for Camus by unanimous decision. The scorecards read 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28.
