Round 3: Pettis is all smiles to start the final round. Caceres is always smiling. Caceres takes the center of the cage. He lands a left hand. Pettis changes levels and takes Caceres down. Caceres looks for a kimura and uses it to get to his feet. He lands an inside leg kick. Pettis increases his output. He lands a right hand. Pettis misses with a high kick and slips. Caceres seizes the opportunity and goes to the ground with him. They scramble and get back to their feet. Caceres delivers a knee to the body. Pettis answers with a kick to the body. “I knew I hurt him, but I didn’t want to get antsy. I didn’t want to rush because he is good on the ground. He’s a talented guy and he has a lot of moves and locks on the ground, so I wanted to take my time and make sure I was in good position.
“Once I escaped that heel hook and took his back, I slipped my hand under his throat and knew I had him good, and was able to submit him.”
