MMAWeekly has learned that the proposed Nick Diaz vs Diego Sanchez fight has been moved to November 5th’s Spike TV show. Also, in an exclusive interview with MMAWeekly, Kit Cope breaks the news that he will be making his UFC debut against “Ultimate Fighter” runner-up, Kenny Florian on the “Ultimate Fighter” Season 2 finale.
Kit Cope, who is a multi time bare knuckles muay thai champion, will get a shot to prove that he is truly ready to excel in mixed martial arts when he steps into the octagon for the first time on November 5th. Cope will be heading out the Big Bear to train with his teammates, Tito Ortiz, Ricco Rodriguez, Dean Lister, Justin McCaulley and Shawn Yarborough to prepare for his match-up.
“It’s the season finale of the “Ultimate Fighter” show, and it will be on network TV on Spike, and I’ll be destroying Kenny Florian,” Cope stated in his interview with MMAWeekly. “Actually I’ll be fighting Kenny “Dead Man Walking” Florian.”
Kit Cope who has been fighting around the world for years made himself known to the mainstream world when he appeared on the MTV show, “True Life: I’m a Muay Thai Fighter.” This will be Cope’s first appearance in the UFC and he will be appearing in front of his hometown, Las Vegas crowd.
“I’d like to say it’s ‘a great opportunity’ and that kind of thing, I’m really kind of like ‘it’s about time!’ Yeah, I only have 4 MMA fights, but I’ve got 24 muay thai fights, I’ve got a bare knuckle championship, I’ve got a shootboxing championship, come on, I’ve got 4 world titles!” said Cope. “It will be nice to fight in front of my hometown fans in Vegas. Everybody in Vegas has been screaming for me to fight locally, so you’ll see a rambunctious crowd like you’ve never seen in the UFC.”
When posed with the chance to take on one of the competitors from the “Ultimate Fighter” reality shows, Cope jumped at the chance and hopes it’s not the last fighter from that show that he gets a shot at.
“I have no doubt that I’m going to knock this fool out and then I’m going to throw up my hands and say ‘this is what the Ultimate Fighter show has to offer, this guy?’ Cope said about his opponent. “After that they’ll probably be like, ‘let’s give you another one’ and then I’ll rip that guy a new ass too. I’ll fight Diego Sanchez, and I’ll submit him” Cope continued…”This is going to be for all those jackasses that keep saying ‘what’s up with all the hype about Kit Cope?’ Well you know what, those jackasses, they’re about to see. They’re about to see something the UFC has been waiting for, a striker with real skills.”
Kit Cope will make his debut on November 5th against Kenny Florian inside the octagon.
