Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on Fox 5The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the performance-based fighter bonuses following UFC Fight Night 37 at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday.  Alexander Gustafsson brought home two bonuses totaling $100,000, while Jimi Manuwa and Gunner Nelson each took home $50,000 in bonus money.

Fight of the Night honors went to the main event fighters Alexander Gustafsson and Jimi Manuwa.  Gustafsson ended Manuwa’s 14-fight winning streak in the second round.  He moved in with a well-placed knee that wobbled Manuwa.  The top 205-pound contender followed up with a series of uppercuts until Manuwa crumbled under the pressure.

Gustafsson was also awarded a Performance of the Night bonus for the technical knockout win.

Gunner Nelson received the other Performance of the Night award for his first-round submission of Omari Akhmedov that kicked off the main card.  After gauging his range and timing, Nelson landed a straight left hand that hurt Akhmedov and set up a takedown.  He quickly advanced to the mount position and softened up the Russian with punches and elbows.  As Akhmedov worked to get back to his feet, Nelson locked on a guillotine choke forcing Akhmedov to tap out.

I’m thinkin Brad Pickett and Neil Seery should’ve gotten FON honors.

    • shakejunt

seery certainly deserves something extra for putting up such a surprisingly competitive fight.

Gunner Nelson continues to impress me but Michael Johnson hasn’t.

    • shakejunt

michael johnson just beat another top level gatekeeper and a polished striker at that… and you’re impressed with gunnar nelson who finally showed up for a fight?

      • Dragon Kid

So Johnson knocks out a guy (Tibau) who’s been fighting on the prelim for years and ppl like u get caught up in his hype. If he finished Guillard it would’ve been impressive but he didn’t. At least Nelson brings it each time with a good game plan and finishes impressively.

damarques johnson isn’t the best litmus test for a bjj prospect and his fight against santiago was a little tedious. he showed up last night and deserves an established name, but johnson has already shown that he can hang with the established names.

          • Dragon Kid

Too bad the fight sucked otherwise had Guillard put his mind to it he could’ve won the fight.

          • shakejunt

can’t blame this on guillard or his gameplan, johnson just came out and kept him back with volume. melvin is a good win for him.

          • Dragon Kid

Melvin usually brings it, this time he barely did that

          • shakejunt

yeah… because mj didn’t let him. same way dos santos always brings it, except when cain doesn’t let him do his thing.

          • Lucas Freire

            Exactly, MJ nuliffied his game

          • Dragon Kid

I’m still not impressed with MJ

          • Lucas Freire

Well, that is up to him impressing you. xP
I don’t think he has what it takes to get a title, or even a title shot…But I think he could be a solid top10
