Benson Henderson 545 WEC 46The UFC is headed to Albuquerque, N.M., in June with former lightweight champion Benson Henderson headlining the card in a fight with Rustam Khabilov.

UFC officials announced the bout on Tuesday in a report by the Albuquerque Journal.

Henderson vs. Khabilov lands at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque on June 7.

The former UFC and WEC lightweight champion, Henderson (20-3) is coming off of a victory over Josh Thomson at UFC on Fox 11. He lost the UFC belt to Anthony Pettis in the fight prior to that.

Henderson trains at the MMA Lab in nearby Glendale, Ariz., which should make him a strong drawing card in Albuquerque.

Having fought the majority of his career in his home country of Russia, Khabilov (17-1) has won all three of his bouts inside the Octagon, defeating Vinc Pichel, Yancey Medeiros, and Jorge Masvidal.

Masvidal was a big step fro Khabilov’s career, and Henerson will be an even bigger one. A victory over the former champion would propel Khabilov into the upper echelon of the division.

The remainder of the fight card should be revealed in the coming weeks.

I predict bad night for Bendo…bad, long and painful.

Amen, I hope Khabilov suplexes him on his head. War Rustam.

      • Seth

Rustam will force Ben to work at least. He won’t wait and see what he will do – so that opens a window of opportunity that this time we will see Ben really work and try to win fight without doubts.

  • carsti07 .

I predict another very close decision win for Bendo.

Benson really needs to dominate his opponents if he wants a title shot. He’s a talented fighter, he’s real tough and he’s fighting top guys but he needs to impress the boss big time right now. Should be a good fight though, I mean nobody has ran through Henderson minus that second loss to Pettis.

I support Ben for a few years now, he’s really skilled fighter and gifted athlete, but he just “does just enough to win” :/ Best thing about this fight – Rustam won’t let him get away with something like that. He alreay showed he likes to push the action and he will force Ben to work – no matter what the outcome will be, it’s gonna be obvious which one won that fight.

He deserves a lot of respect. I can see him getting another shot but the division is so tough most of these guys can beat one another on any given night. With two losses to the current champ I feel he has to be extra impressive to get another title shot.

Hims to afwaid to fight Khabib, but he’ll fight Khabilov. Suplex time

    • TheCerealKiller

By the UFC, Benson is ranked #1, Khabib is #7 and Rustam Khabilov is ranked #15. So why is the undefeated Khabib fighting Dos Anjos #5 (6 losses) and not Henderson? Is this more of a gimme for Bendo and more of a building fight for Khabib? I just feel like five wins in the UFC and undefeated should get you a bigger fight.

      War Khabib Nurmagomedov!!!

      • Maddawgmar

It’s because no one wants to fight Khabib. The only one that would take the fight is someone who has as much to gain from a victory as Khabib does. Doesn’t matter IMO, Khabib and Rustam are practically the same fighter, except Khabib is just a little more dynamic.
