UFC Hands Out $65,000 Bonuses Following UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit

The Ultimate Fighting Championship handed out $65,000 fighter bonuses following UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit on Saturday.  Fabricio Werdum, Roy Nelson, Stephen Thompson, and Dustin Poirier took home the bonus checks for their in-Octagon performances on Saturday.

Fight of the Night honors were awarded to went to the co-main event fighters.  It was Fabricio Werdum’s return to the organization and he impressed in his unanimous decision win over Roy Nelson.  Werdum bloodied and battered Nelson with knees and punches.  Nelson displayed his heart and determination, but it was mostly a one-sided affair.

Knockout of the Night went to UFC newcomer Stephen Thompson who delivered a highlight reel head kick knockout over Dan Stittgen during the first fight of the night.  Thompson used his karate style to set up a round-kick to the head that immediately rendered Stittgen unconscious.  As Stittgen’s body crashed to the canvas, the referee stopped the fight.  Thompson takes home a bonus and delivered with a knockout finish in his UFC debut.

The Submission of the Night award went to Dustin Poirier for his triangle choke/arm bar submission of Max Hollaway in preliminary action.  Hollaway was having a good showing until the fight hit the ground.  Poirier’s submission game proved too much as he applied a triangle choke.  As he locked down the submission, Poirier transitioned, adding an arm bar to the triangle choke forcing Dollaway to tap out.

Total bonus money handed out to fighters following UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit totaled $260,000.
