Marvin GuillardUFC lightweight Melvin Guillard on Thursday was found guilty on two counts of aggravated battery, but has avoided jail time.

The charges stem from a bar fight in September 2010 in Albuquerque, N.M.

“That was an incident that happened when I first got to Jackson’s,” Guillard told ESPN.com in April.  “To put it all out there, I’m fighting charges because I was jumped by a general manager and five security guards.”

Guillard, however, was found guilty and sentenced to 364 days in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County, N.M. That sentence was suspended. In its place, Guillard received supervised probation through June 2015, has to complete 40 hours of community service, and must pay court fees.

Sports Illustrated’s Melissa Segura first reported the news of Guillard’s sentencing.

The change in sentencing will allow Guillard to continue his fight career.

Guillard (30-12-2) has lost four of his last five bouts. He most recently lost a split decision to Jamie Varner in December 2012.

He is slated to return to the Octagon at UFC on Fox 8 on July 27, where he is scheduled to face Mac Danzig.

He didn’t have adequate representation. I was in the courtroom.

That’s his own damn fault. The dude has enough money for a lawyer.

1-4 in his last 5 fights. Still fighting. Tested positive for and admitted to taking cocaine. Still fighting. Guilty on battery charges, still fighting.

Miguel Torres tweets a rape joke: INSTANTLY FIRED.

I agree, there is a double standard here. However if he wasn’t disciplined when it first happened by the UFC then it’s not fair to punish him for it now. As for the win/loss record thing, Torres was not performing in his fights, at least Guillard is staying competitive (minus Lauzon).

Also UFC is a brand that is growing globally, and branching out to numerous markets. Introducing women fighters into the UFC, there is no way as a major corporation you let an idiot publicly make rape jokes and keep him around. Dana always says as long as you fight your heart out and put on exciting fights he will keep you around. Some of the most popular fighters are the ones that fight as if it’s their last fight,
    win or lose!

A “general manager and five security guards” and none of them knew how to apply a choke?

“I was jumped by a general manager and five security guards.”

That might be the most ignorant thing I have ever read. It had nothing to do with you being a complete a$$hole and the bar needing to remove you.
