The UFC returned to North Carolina on Wednesday night and the crowd showed up at the Bojangles Coliseum for UFC Fight Night 21: Florian vs. Gomi.

7,700 fans were in attendance for the show, which led into the debut of the eleventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” with a gate of $590,685.

The card showcased several top fighters including Kenny Florian, who choked out Takanori Gomi, in the main event, while Roy Nelson toppled six-foot-11-inch Stevan Struve with strikes in under one minute of their heavyweight fight.

Prior to Wednesday night’s event, the UFC had held events in Charlotte two times before in the early days of the promotion with UFC 3 in 1994 and UFC 5 in 1995.
