Dillashaw holds the UFC bantamweight championship, but will be putting it on the line against former champ Cruz. The interesting part of this match-up – beyond a clash in styles – is that Cruz never lost the bantamweight belt. He was stripped of the title after struggling through various injuries and having to withdraw from numerous bouts over the past four years.
Cruz will finally get the opportunity to earn back the belt he never lost, while Dillashaw has a chance to proclaim himself the top bantamweight fighter in the world.
The UFC fight Night 81 co-main event is a pivotal lightweight bout between former UFC champion Anthony Pettis and former Bellator titleholder Eddie Alvarez. The winner could be the one to challenge the winner of the lightweight title fight between champion Rafael dos Anjos and challenger Conor McGregor, who do battle at UFC 197 on March 5.
