The UFC Fight Night card in Halifax, Nova Scotia continues to grow with the addition of two match-ups. Top ten-ranked bantamweights Rafael Assuncao and Bryan Caraway will face off on the Oct. 4 fight card while female strawweights Paige VanZant and Kailin Curran will square off in their promotional debuts.
UFC officials announced the match-ups on Wednesday.
Assuncao (22-4) is ranked No. 3 in the UFC’s 135-pound division. The 32-year-old Brazilian is riding a six-fight winning streak that includes a win over current champion T.J. Dillashaw.
Caraway (19-6) sits at No. 8 in the UFC bantamweight division rankings. He’s gone 4-1 in his five fights inside the octagon with all of his wins coming by submission. His lone loss since making his promotional debut in December 2011 was by split decision to Takeya Mizugaki. Caraway is currently on a two-fight winning streak.
VanZant (3-1) turned pro in June 2012. The 20-year-old Nevada native is the youngest female fighter on the UFC’s roster. Her one loss was to 115-pound contender Tecia Torres. She is coming off a win over Courtney Himes in her last outing in April 2013.
Curran (3-0) turned pro in March 2013 and has strung together an undefeated three-fight winning streak. The 23-year-old Hawaiian plans to remain undefeated when she faces VanZant on Oct. 4.
