Donald Cowboy CerroneDonald Cerrone spoiled Jim Miller’s hometown advantage, knocking out the New Jersey resident in the second round of the main event at UFC Fight Night Atlantic City on Wednesday.

Cerrone showed an edge in the striking game, chopping away at Miller until a head kick ended the evening’s featured bout at 3:31 of the round.

The opening round was arguably even in the beginning of the five-minute frame. Miller was able to secure takedowns, but unable to establish anything on the ground, as Cerrone got back to the feet quickly. Both fighters traded shots — Cerrone with kicks and punches, Miller with looping punches — with Cerrone getting the edge in that department towards the end of the round.

An inadvertent strike to Miller’s groin highlighted the beginning of the second round. After action continued, Cerrone began to open up and land a mixture of strikes, forcing Miller to backpedal in an attempt to avoid the onslaught.

Cerrone then landed a perfectly placed head kick, knocking Miller down in an obvious daze. Adding one more punch on the ground for good measure, Cerrone was pulled off Miller, winning the bout via KO.

With the win, Cerrone improves his record to 24-6, 1 NC, and moves a step closer to jumping back into title contention. In defeat, Miller drops to 24-5, 1 NC.

There was never a groin strike. Replay showed it landed above the belt.

Yes. I usually don’t complain about the writers of these articles, but did he pay attention to the broadcast and any replays? There was a big deal made that it wasn’t a groin shot.

Well I just don’t think the writer was making any speculations. The ref called it a groin strike so that is what officially went on record. I assume Dan noticed that it was a questionable groin strike though because the fight started back up fast and in that situation I don’t know how Miller wouldn’t taken the full 5 minutes to recover if he had the chance.

Def not a groin strike. He basically tko’d him with a body kick and then ko with a head kick, IMO he beat him twice. Awesome fight from both guys though
